Welcome to McLean Hamlet

The McLean Hamlet is a community of 507 single-family homes with a colonial style on the western end of McLean, VA.

It is conveniently located in the land that occupies the space between Lewinsville Road, The Dulles Toll Rd (267) and Route 495.

The neighborhood is sought after for multiple reasons, the main reason perhaps being its location.

McLean Hamlet is central to some of Northern VA’s most bustling areas for retail, commercial space, entertainment, dining, and other amenities.

In addition, the neighborhood’s proximity to Washington D.C. and Bethesda make it a great option for commuters.

If you work in the city but do not wish to live there, McLean Hamlet – and McLean as a whole – is a great residential option.

The neighborhood is also attractive and well-kept, with a range of home styles.

Most are of a colonial style, but there are a handful of split-level homes as well; the exteriors themselves are quite eclectic. Driving through the neighborhood you will see a lot of brick, wood siding, porches, garages and columns.

McLean Hamlet was constructed in sections — most of the original homes were built in the 1960s and 1970s, although the original community development continued until 1995.

The neighborhood was designed with wide streets and sidewalks for the residents’ enjoyment.

There are entrances into the community from Lewinsville Rd, but there is no access to other main roads. This keeps traffic low throughout the neighborhood since commuters cannot cut through it.

McLean Hamlet Amenities

One of the great benefits of the Hamlet is the activities and amenities that are either in the neighborhood or just nearby.

The community itself has two parks within the subdivision: the McLean Hamlet Park and the smaller Falstaff Park. McLean Hamlet park has both trails and open areas for sports, walking, and running.

On the west end of the neighborhood sits the Hamlet Tennis & Swim Club, which is one of the nicest neighborhood swimming/tennis combinations in the whole area.

There are tennis lessons and teams for both members and non-members — starting at age 3 all the way through adult.

The swimming pool is large with eight 25m lap lanes, a wading area, and 12ft deep diving well. There are both swim and diving teams available for youth.

Spring Hill Elementary is also built on the west end of the community. The school is walkable to some of the homes and can be quickly accessed from Lewinsville Rd. by everyone else.

Although technically outside of the community, Spring Hill Park offers residents of McLean Hamlet another opportunity for recreation and exercise.

The park has multiple lit, full-size sport fields and is right across from the Hamlet on Lewinsville Rd.

Within Spring Hill Park is Spring Hill Rec Center, which you can either join for a monthly fee, or purchase a day pass or group of passes.

The rec center has racquetball courts, basketball courts, a year-round indoor pool, a fitness center, and also offers classes and lessons for many different subjects.

McLean Hamlet is ideally situated to ensure that your home and activities are as close together as possible. This is ideal for anyone who spends much time driving through Northern VA on a weekly basis.

New Construction Homes in McLean Hamlet

The McLean Hamlet has an active Homeowners Association (HOA) that oversees all sections of the community. Each section has its own set of bylaws and covenants, but most homes lie in sections 1 and 2.

The HOA also has a committee that controls the external appearance of the homes. In order to perform any exterior modifications or additions, you will need prior approval from the committee.

Incidentally, for some neighborhoods with tighter restrictions, new construction homes are very rare — especially speculative new homes that developers build to sell on the open market.

The Hamlet, however, has seen speculative new home builds; the first one sold on the market in 2016.

Builders need HOA approval and must keep with the general “look” of the neighborhood, which can deter some builders.

Building additions is also possible, and goes through a similar approval process with the HOA.

Again, every section of the Hamlet has different bylaws and covenants, so make sure you read your HOA docs if you plan to later build or do an addition on your home.
