Canterbury Woods is a community of 600+ homes in the heart of Annandale Virginia, just outside of 495.

The area is known for its wooded landscape, large split level and colonial homes and prime location.

Home Styles

The original homes in Canterbury Woods were built in the 1960s and 1970s.

There are 3 primary styles in the original development: split foyers, colonials and ramblers.

The split level homes enter into a foyer where you can go upstairs or downstairs. The kitchen, bedrooms and main living areas are upstairs.

Downstairs of split foyers you can find ample space for rec rooms, and many contain full bathrooms which is ideal for a guest room or office.

The colonial style homes primarily enter into a hall with a staircase in front of you to go up to the bedrooms and full bathrooms.

The main living areas on in the colonial style homes are on the same level you enter the home. The basements are are also below, with many partially finished with a rec room or other room.

Rambler style homes here are 1 level and a basement. You enter the home on the same level with bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas.

Each style offers its own unique benefits and different features.

Over the years, the homes have seen many different upgrades, renovations and remodels.

There are approximately 615 homes in the community.

Location & Land

The community is located just off Rt 620 and a very short drive to the beltway (495) which is a major highway in the DC / MD / VA area.

The community has lots of mature trees, and many of the homes have wooded lots. This gives the feeling of living amongst nature for the homeowners.

There is also many acres of parkland nearby, and the community backs up to long branch park.

Many of the homes in Canterbury Woods back to parkland, allowing for extra privacy.

The lots in the neighborhood are on the larger side, varying form .2 acres to the biggest of .75 acres. The average is roughly .3 acres.

The large lots offer a flexible yard area to fence and is perfect for kids, pets, entertaining, gardening, decks, patios and more.

New Construction Homes in Canterbury Woods

Canterbury Woods has no HOA, so there are no extra restrictions on building additions or new construction homes.

Construction falls under the Fairfax County permitting process.

The first new construction home was completed in 2014, a large brick front colonial.

Many of the original homes, however, are spacious and functional without an addition or building new.

Schools

The elementary school, Canterbury Woods Elementary, is located conveniently within the bounds of the neighborhood very convenient most of the homes.

The community has a history of being within the Frost Middle School and Woodson High School boundary.

Nearby Amenities

Here are some things to do and nearby amenities.

  • Quick access to 495. The neighborhood is just over 1 mile to the beltway exit. Great for getting around.
  • Outdoor activites. Trails, lakes, the Canterbury Woods Swim Club, playgrounds, a skate park, golf and more are all closeby.
  • Wakefield Rec Center. Memberships are available and has a large gym, indoor pool, classes and more.
  • Things to do. Fairfax City, Springfield Mall and Mosaic District are accessible and offer a great spot for a night out or lunch and shopping.
  • George Mason University. A 10-15 minute drive to campus off Rt. 620.
  • Inova Fairfax Hospital. A major employer in the area, the hospital is under 5 miles away.
  • About 30 minutes to DC. Access the city via 395 or 66, and enjoy downtown.
